Math Slayer
Math isn’t the enemy.
The gaps are.
When math falls apart, it rarely happens all at once. A missing concept here, a shaky foundation there - and suddenly algebra feels impossible. Math Slayer finds the gaps, fills them in, and builds the kind of number sense that actually lasts.
WHAT MATH SLAYER IS
Most struggling math students aren't bad at math. They're missing pieces - foundational concepts that were never fully cemented before the class moved on. Those missing pieces compound over time until the whole structure feels unstable.
Math Slayer is built around hands-on learning, math games, and real problem solving. The goal isn't to drill facts until a child gives up - it's to build genuine number sense, the kind of deep understanding that makes math feel manageable, even enjoyable.
This course is designed to supplement your child's existing math curriculum, not replace it. Think of it as the foundation work that makes everything else click.
Building math from the ground up.
The bridge to higher-level math
The jump from elementary math to algebra is where countless students fall through the cracks. I've pieced together a curriculum specifically designed to close that gap - teaching the concepts and thinking skills that make the abstract concepts of algebra accessible, not terrifying.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Is your child fighting this dragon?
They could do math in earlier grades, but something stopped clicking - and the gap has only grown
They can follow a procedure, but don't really understand why it works
Math feels impossible to memorize, no matter how much they practice
Fractions, decimals, or negative numbers feel like a foreign language
Pre-algebra or algebra feels completely out of reach
They've been labeled "not a math person" - and have started to believe it
They need a supplement to their current curriculum that actually addresses the root issues
WHAT WE COVER
A full path from fundamental to algebra readiness
Work is tailored to your child's specific needs - we start where they are, not where they "should" be. Areas of focus include:
Number sense
Deep understanding of how numbers work - place value, quantity, and relationships between numbers.
Math fact fluency
Building automaticity with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division - through games, not drill.
Fractions & decimals
Conceptual understanding of parts and wholes - the foundation for almost everything in higher-level math.
Measurement & geometry
Time, money, shapes, and spacial reasoning - the practical math that shows up everywhere in real life.
Pre-algebra concepts
Variables, patterns, equations, and algebraic thinking - the bridge between arithmetic and algebra.
Problem solving
Strategies for working through multi-step problems - building the mathematical reasoning that carries students through higher math.
HOW I TEACH
Math that moves, plays, and sticks
Math Slayer sessions are anything but passive. Learning happens through doing - and doing things that are actually engaging.
01
Math games
Games build fluency and strategic thinking without the dread of timed drills. Students don't realize how much they're practicing.
02
Hands-on projects
Manipulatives, visual models, and real-world problems make abstract concepts concrete and memorable.
03
Problem solving
Students learn to think through problems, not just execute procedures - building real mathematical confidence.
04
Targeted review
We continuously revisit and reinforce - never moving on until a concept is truly solid.
WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW
One-on-one sessions
Private sessions tailored entirely to your child - their learning needs, their specific gaps, their pace. The curriculum is not designed for the average child. It is built for you.
You'll receive regular updates, so you always know what we're working on, what's improving, and what comes next. You are a vital part of the quest's success.
Group classes
Word Slayer and Math Slayer group classes bring the energy of learning together - students discover they are not alone in their struggle, and that shared courage is powerful.
Group classes are offered seasonally in Davis County, Utah. Class sizes are intentionally kept small so every child gets the attention they need to succeed.
